Flight itinerary for hotel and rental bookings

This is the least common reason people need an itinerary, and worth being straightforward about: most hotels will never ask. The ones that do are usually operating under a guest-registration rule that makes them partly answerable for how long a foreign guest stays.

Where it does come up, what is being asked for is a dated departure — something the property can record alongside your passport details.

When a property actually asks

Three situations account for most of it. Countries where hotels must register foreign guests with local authorities and record a departure date. Long-stay bookings, where a property wants the stay to line up with your permitted time in the country. And landlords or serviced-apartment operators letting for months rather than nights.

Car rental is a narrower case again: it occasionally appears on cross-border hires, where the company wants evidence you are leaving by a particular date and not driving the vehicle out of the country indefinitely.

What satisfies it

A dated itinerary in your name that a receptionist can read and record. The bar is lower here than for a consulate — nobody is verifying a PNR against an airline database at hotel check-in — but the document still has to be real, because you may be asked for the same proof again at the airport on the way out.

That is the practical argument for a genuine held reservation over a generated PDF: the same document works for the property, for the airline at check-in, and for immigration if they ask.

Usually you already have one

If you booked a return flight, show that. This page exists for the narrower case where you are travelling one-way, staying open-ended, or renting for longer than your ticket covers — the situations where you genuinely have nothing dated to show.

If that is not you, you almost certainly do not need to buy anything.

What you receive

A booking reference and an itinerary PDF by email within minutes of payment, showing passenger name, route, flight numbers and dates. Re-downloadable from your dashboard if a property asks again mid-stay.

One flat service fee per traveller, and no airline fare — the reservation is held rather than ticketed, so the seat releases itself when the hold expires.

Frequently asked questions

Do hotels really ask for a flight itinerary?+

Most don't. It comes up mainly where local rules require properties to register foreign guests with a departure date, on long stays, and occasionally with landlords letting for months rather than nights.

I already have a return ticket. Do I need this?+

No. If you have a dated return booking, show that. This is for one-way or open-ended travel where you have nothing dated to present.

Does a car rental company need one?+

Rarely, and mainly on cross-border hires where the company wants evidence of when you're leaving the country. Check with the rental company rather than assuming.

Will the same document work at the airport?+

Yes. It's a real reservation with a verifiable PNR, so it satisfies airline check-in and immigration onward-travel checks as well — which is the main reason to use a genuine booking rather than a generated PDF.
